Things Not To Try

Note to self, HapKiDo:

When a new guy starts martial arts, the best way to scare him out of that place in two seconds is to demonstrate an air fall from about four feet up.

Fortunately, he decided to stick with it. :-)

I'd like to see that on video and in slow motion!

I tried judo as a kid and couldn't or wouldn't fall from standing onto my forearms! I'm a firt class chicken s**t!

richmond,
Well, at least it's a good way of finding out who has the guts to make it!

Cjenny,
I tried to e-mail you & see how your son is doing - but the e-mail was kicked back to me.

I have my 1st degree test coming up this month. I'll ask Master Rion to get me a video clip of an air fall to post.

Front falls - as we call them - aren't so bad. The trick is to turn your head & don't let your stomach hit the ground. I wouldn't call you a chicken s**t: falling is not a natural thing. We spend our lives learning to avoid it, not seeking it out, like my crazy @$$ does! :-)

Mrs. Who,
He must, because he didn't quit. He did make one comment when I did the fall, though:

"That's just insane!"

Heh. Just wait, mister.

"That's just insane"

Pretty much sums up my reaction the first time I saw someone do that :-/

Harvey,
Mine too! People new to this stuff often forget that the "experienced" used to be the "newbies".
What they didn't see was all the times we did it wrong just to get it right.

OW! OW! OW! Ah, that's it! :-)
